In recent days, I embarked on a journey of writing,

Yet, at times, I find my poetic prowess slightly blighting.

My mind, a canvas sometimes blank, Yearns for the lyrical flow, like a fish in a tank.

Some may perceive my lines merely rhyme,

But they spring forth, a notion ripe in its prime.

I refrain from similes and alterations grand,

For the art of writing, I strive to understand.

Like a fish in a lavish aquarium, I muse, Dreaming of delicacies, if my owner could choose.

Today, I weave thoughts seemingly random,

A princess musings confined, like in a kingdom’s chasm.

Descending the staircase, a vision of perfection,

Yet, daunting is the role of a princess, with expectations in all direction. Publication of my maiden poem, a cherished dream,

Atop my aspirations, it gleams.

Free verses, once despised, now find their grace,

As seen in the lines you’ve just embraced.

But there’s one thing I disdain,

The thought of my sixteenth birthday, not marked with a refrain.

Once, quarantine reigned atop the list, But now, closeness blossomed in the solitude, not to be missed.

A recent personality test, deemed me mature,

Yet, within me, doubts often endure.

For amidst the chaos of my bustling mind,

Thoughts swarm, sometimes hard to find.

Just a few days into this writing quest,

I ponder, do I possess the poetess’s zest?
