Becoming Invisible

Always replying with “It’s okay”

letting others have their way

laughing at jokes at your own expense

never ever coming to your defence

shrinking yourself small enough

believing you don’t deserve love

when hurting,

act like you don’t care

never taking up the whole chair

if they forget you

pretend you forgot too

by following this, it’s clear

very soon

you’ll completely disappear

even be praised for being easy,

kind

a woman who never speaks her mind

And then,

on one ordinary day

Someone will look at you and say

“What do you want?”

In that instant

you will no longer be

the tragic backdrop that others see

you will ask to sit down in the chair

just like that

somewhere

the person you were afraid to be

gets set free

someone no one will be able to erase

cause finally

YOU WILL TAKE UP SPACE…
