Barren tree

My anger is barren tree

The wood rots, making a hollow shell

Termites drill holes and consume the cracks

A vulture perches on the fragile branches, hunting for a carcass with more sustenance

The roots are exposed on the surface; flies buzz around the wound and maggots grow on the flesh

The sun beats down, scratching its claws against the trunk

Warmth rubbing against veins in the twigs

The dry wood makes love with bush-veld grass, tangling limps and their fiery passions igniting.

My anger is a barren tree

Slowly burning to black charcoal

Crushed and harvested

For art.
