Ashes

By Sukhmeet Kaur

we were two stars dancing in the midnight haze,

a spark ignited in a million ways,

laughter echoed through the quiet nights,

in every glance our worlds felt so right

you linger like a shadow, haunting every thought,

caught between your laughter and the love you never brought,

every drop of rain reminds me of what we could have been,

you’re a ghost in my memory, where do i begin?

you ran to others while i stood by your side

gave you my heart but u chose to hide

celebrated your smile while my own faded away

the hurt built up like clouds on a rainy day

deep down i know there’s no turning back

this love left its mark, it’s more than just black,

but here beneath the surface where no one else can see,

i’m learning how to breathe without your melody.

you were the calm and the chaos, the bruise and the balm,

a fleeting forever wrapped in borrowed calm

if love was a fire, then i burned willingly,

and in the ashes, ill find what’s left of me
