And That Was Him

By Devdutt Tandel

I came across this man

Who was loved by everyone

For his heart

For his words

And his world was crowded

Unlike mine

But one day I saw a glitch

In his perfect world

And it felt

Like something familiar

Maybe a delusion

Of my perception

Of him

Of his longing

Of his urge

For something more

That might not be grand

But something human

More than this

Or me

Yet I reach out

Not for him

But for me

And for my dry hands

That seek for a touch

By a man

Who is more than what he is supposed to be

But he ran

From the rebel in my eyes

What I knew not

Was that he was lost

From not being him

And that was him
