And on that day…

The day he loves someone else, I’m sure the world will be covered in a dark grey that weighs heavily on the soul.

The kind of cold and dark that makes leaving the house seem scary.

The kind of gloom that keeps kids from going to school and adults dreading the office…

It has them working in silence.

The day he lays his head on another’s lap, the rain will fall in sleets,

it’ll be deafening, and it will drown out all the thoughts I had for our future.

I will be tempted to sit in it.

If only to have it pound on my bare skin to feel something other than the pain of my heart breaking.

The day he gives his heart to someone else,

I know the heavens will open up,

releasing centuries of pent-up rage, every spitfire cursing of a soul that has been in shackles.

And I will wish for the earth to open up and bury me alive…

So that I might not have to endure the pain of not being loved by you.
