And It Was Not Cute

By Devdutt Tandel

And he told me

that he would hold my hands forever.

And I laughed,

cause your hands were warm

and your smile was light

it made me wonder

why would my cold hands ever seduce you.

Boy, oh boy,

your burning passion is abundant,

so dreamable,

so unbelievable.

But I love the storms,

and the snow,

and the death.

So my sunshine,

I don’t want to scar you.

So I take my hands

and hide them beneath my sleeves.

And no, it’s not cute.

And no, it’s not some game of burning desire.

You say you’ll take all of me,

but my bunnie bear

it’s not your responsibility.

And I know those arms

could hide me from the world,

as long as I need

until I consume you.

So I look away

from everything I wanted to own,

and my choc chip cookie,

don’t follow my trails,

cause that’s not the story I want for you.

And along the way,

you’ll meet a sunflower

that will dance in your light,

a fairy tale for your family.

And I will be the snowflake

you once touched

that gave you chills,

but melted away.

So I laughed

and it was not cute.
