And In Anticipation
By Sharon John
The clock strikes one
My sleep, long gone
And yet my mind, wanders
To a man at the borders.
Six months was all it took,
For my world to be all shook.
I should have known,
That a kiss was not a promise.
As days had gone by,
I felt myself falling.
Nights that brought you to me,
Should have let me, be.
I tried to make believe,
That I'd be enough for you.
I realized, I was in too deep,
Yet, hope, did I.
And then you came,
I met you with a racing heart.
To be nonchalant, I did try,
But in the night, I did cry.
Past midnight, we were a bit tipsy,
Over liquor or love?
Everything that I yearned to tell you,
Seemed stuck in my throat.
The small talk didn't cover up,
What was in mind.
You pulled me to you,
And that was all it took.
Your feverish kisses,
Kindled what I thought was dead.
Every cell, every fibre,
A happiness that I could barely contain.
Marveled that this doe-eyed man,
Could be mine and mine alone.
In his arms, warmth, I did find,
Dawned on me , it did, I loved him.
One moment of happiness,
Despair did find me soon enough.
All that I had dreamt,
Now lay, shattered.
I see a broken man,
But did he not see,
The broken pieces that I held together?
Unspoken words burned back down my throat.
Let me inside, love,
Let me stay by your side.
Let me lie on your chest,
Fall asleep to the sound of your heart.
I cried for him, to believe,
Yet he did leave.
With an embrace,
That lingers on my clothes.
Each passing day, I pray,
Could I love him, If I may.
Waiting by the door,
To the smile that , melts my worries.
