An Ode To The Stars

By Gouri S

Here in the confines of earth

I dream of stars,

those burning giants of gas-

yet they do not suffocate me;

created as we were in their depths.

Formless specks of dust -

come together to create the image

of life and death.

This cycle of formation and deformation,

common to all which exists.

I hear their call;

an eternal song that stretches aeons

those pulsing cores of unfathomable heat,

yet, in the universe’s infinite expanse,

no more radiant than dewdrops in the morn.

There’s comfort in the thought

for all our failures big and small

the universe is affected naught.

For all our splendor and shine

we are but specks of dust;

that with or without us

time continues its onward thrust

into the unknown depths

of endless tomorrows.
