An Eternal Reminder
By Deepali Singla
Trails of forgotten rain
trace the edges of my soul,
reminding me that
there’s plenty to the observable eye
when the ‘old’ kisses the ‘new.’
Perhaps one needs a pause
to unearth the pattern between the two.
My eyes fixated on the lamp
in my room,
the white bulb no longer
appears small;
its contours expand and
blanket the entire
room, as if a huge ball of
light waits to swallow
the unconscious walls.
There’s so much unspoken
between the whirring of the fan
and the half-parted curtains.
A silent love affair between the two
sits on the curve of my lips;
one sings, and the other dances with joy,
as if reflecting a past rhyme
which once missed capturing my time.
Reminiscences of a brown window
in my old house
cross my mind,
and I remind myself of what
I once read:
‘I am a witness to all
that was, to all that is,
and to all that will be.’
And I quietly close my eyes.
