I think back to what you said

The words edged in my brain

I know I understand what you mean,

I do

Yet my heart betrays

I do not know why I hurt

I just know that I do

I know I shouldn’t, after all

Logic is true to you

I feel the crack in my heart

While my hand rests over it lightly

I whisper softly under my breath

You’re okay, kindly

Yet, my brain knows that I lie

And it refuses to accept deceit

It tells me how I can fake delight

But never to it directly

The scale now tips

The balance breaks

And I dash towards the ground

I do my best to undo my wants

To restore what I’ve almost drowned

I stare down at myself

Cold and alone and shaking

I wonder

How you act so aloof

I wish

I could be aloof too

But even as my thoughts race

One hope is clear

No matter what lies ahead

I hope you’ll always be dear
