Alone in the snow

by Nusaybah Burney

I walk calmly with my black horse in the cold winter snow, I look as if I'm searching for something or same place to go,

but no I have nothing left to search for but instead I just wander in the snow alone.

All around me is snow and nothing more than the empty fields,

I walk for years, miles and watch the seasons change but yet I'm always cold.

In the night I sit by my horse, braiding my long silky black hair while I stir in the sky

asking myself; "what I am really searching for?"

When people see me I look like a ghost in the snow all alone,

I leave no trace but yet I walk quickly, that's why no one ever wonders who I am.

I walk and walk I never follow anyone or any trace of them,

until a day a very cold day when I saw foot prints in the snow,

I never even notice foot prints and if I do I never follow them

but I can't look away, I stare for a while at the foot print

and I tell myself not to follow them

but an urge makes me

I start to follow and I can't stop,

then I start to walk faster and faster until I start to run,

I ran and I ran

I start to see a light not the moonlight but different

a very warm light

After a while I see a house a very lovely and happy house

in the house I see a family,

I stop and I look at the house and smile for the first

time in years

I tell myself to go back now but I'm not myself any more

soo I start walking to the door but

as I start to knock the house starts to

fade in the snow as if it just is disappears

in a snow storm

I look at my hands and see that I am as pale as snow

my smile fades a tear roles down my cheek

Then I remember I'm just a ghost,

I'm a lonely ghost wandering in the snow and in the empty fields

I realize there is no place for me and all I can do is wander.

I get up and slowly start to walk back to my horse

I take my horse and walk back to the snowy path as cry softly

but before the house disappears in the snow I look at it one last time and walk away not looking back and wipe my last tears off

and not once do I look back again

I walked years and miles, through fields and snow but I'll keep walking and wandering and I will never stop or turn back

so I walk with my black horse in the cold snow and the empty fields all alone

I am the lonely ghost in the snow

I walk in the empty fields and snow alone.
