Addict

He was an addict they said.

'He still is' muttered another.

Tied to his bed.

He screamed all day long.

His lips were white and eyes were red.

He screamed all night long.

He deserves it;

An addict.

His room stayed locked and windows shut.

Yet, his voice echoed in these walls.

His screams.

He screamed all day.

Stop.

His mouth was taped.

His screams became louder.

Stop.

He was an addict.

He still is.

I walked into the room,

To end his misery

He looked at me and smiled.

I realised.

I realised his screams were not because of pain.

Nor because of fear.

Joy.

I was tied to a bed.

Screaming.

I was an addict they said.

I still am, said another.

He didn't thank me for his freedom.

He didn't hug me.

He walked.

He'll always be an addict,

so will I,

And so will you.

Right?

Gratitude.
