Adam’s note to Eve
And though I am out of words,
my heart sings a thousand melodies
You are my sunset , Set out to keep my sun rising
Taken from me so I would cleave to you
I cleave so hard I can feel my heart sweat
I cleave so hard I can hear my heart sing, 'I love you'
My tasteless saliva tastes sweet whenever I say your name
My tongue twists and swirls as it gently spits out your name...'Eve'
Your voice sings out my name like David's harp, and I immediately understand why God took a part of me to make you
You are a part of me taken to make another part of me to come together with me and create other parts of me...'Eve'
The mother of my children, my birthday gift from God, my lifetime gift oh Eve...
You hypnotised my spirit from the moment I saw you
Your eyes reflect God's smile
Your body is curved like Heaven's clouds
Your head crowns the cascade of hair that falls on your shoulders
Or maybe it carries the soft pitch black hair like God's footstool
Or is it like a horse's tail?
Oh! I don't know but what I know is that when I look at you, I feel you in the heart of my spirit
Your fingers and toes are like the keys of a grand piano
Unlocking my soul with a great soprano
All I see when I look at you is a full composition of psalms
If the trees lend me their branches, if the trees lend me their leaves, if heaven sends down a blank bible,
I will write you songs and poetry, while I gaze at your beauty in heaven's mirror
I will write you poetry for eternity while we enter heaven's gates with praise
I have a lump in my throat and I call it Adam's Apple...remember how it got there?
Right after the fruit we ate
I couldn't chew the fruit, I just swallowed and it got stuck
Not that I couldn't chew the fruit because God forgot to make my teeth
But I just couldn't chew because I was too busy glaring at your majestic beauty fade away
The next thing I know, we are na...na...na....na...naked
Here we are covered in disobedience and man-made bullet proof
Protecting ourselves from God's great bullet of anger
Suddenly the bongo drum in my heart thunders louder than the thunder in the great flood of Noah
I feel my heart drowning and being swallowed in a sea of guilt like Jonah
I feel the serpent's satisfaction in the pit of my dirty soul
I cannot bear to look at your fading beauty...oh Eve!
Eve...Eve...oh Eve...
If only I were a better man,
you would be smothered in God's glory, living in the garden where our vision was conceived
Helping me to multiply and subdue the earth with your gentle footprints
You were brought to me because you complete me
Without you, I am a half-dead man walking around with a missing rib
But now, without God, we are both dead empty evil spirits walking
My soul is torn apart like the Red Sea
If only Moses could strike me with his rod so I can be to you
the rock that overflows in abundance with living water for your nourishment
Oh, Eve! My sweet sweet Eve!
I now see that Christ is the best man for you
He completes you more than I ever could
He restores the vision that I gave away in disobedience
He teaches me now how to love you and not to put the blame on you
for the lump in my throat
He teaches me not to grumble in laziness but to provide for you and take care of you
He revives and restores your beauty
He has clothed us with the garment of salvation and the robe of righteousness
I am now conscious of my gratitude to Abba for bringing you to me
I will forever long to breathe the same air that comes from your nostrils
My dearest Eve...
Oh how much I love you!
Eve, you are strawberry and vanilla scented poetry on a breezy spring day
And I hope you learn to trust me enough to retrace your footprints back into my heart
Again...and again...and again
