Acceptance

As you grow up you learn,

Not everything is earned.

Somethings are bought,

Shortcuts are taken,

Don’t be mistaken,

You don’t get what you want.

Sit in the audience,

Hear the applause,

For the smug person,

Who didn’t deserve it at all.

Cry and cry some more,

Tears dry up,

Rinse, accept and repeat.

Today’s a new day,

Filled with the pain of yesterday,

And the fear of an unknown tomorrow.

You try and try harder,

Winner takes all,

But you’re not the winner,

You just took a fall.

It’s alright, pick yourself up,

Cry and cry some more,

Rinse, accept, and repeat.

10, 20, 50 years go by,

Last time’s the charm you say,

Any excuse to hide your ways.

Rejection makes its way through,

Condescendingly looking down at you as,

You’ve fallen again,

Failure is your only friend.

Cry and cry some more,

But this time you don’t pick yourself up, you stay,

Unable to get out of your own way.

Cry and cry some more,

Remain broken.
