Acceptance

By Ragashree. R

I went to our favourite museum today.

The art seemed different.

Maybe I had somehow missed a picture,

Maybe I didn’t notice that particular shade of paint.

Seems like your absence guides me to notice things.

Things I’ve missed or slipped away from.

A girl came up to me and asked,

Where I had gotten my lip stain.

I remembered that you had gifted it to me,

Saying it matched my blushy cheeks.

I don’t remember the last time I wore makeup.

I don’t know if I finally got the courage.

The courage to find someone new.

Maybe that someone new is me.

I have realised that your absence,

Heightens all my senses,

Whether it’s the smell of coffee coming from a cafe,

The sound of someone riding a bicycle,

Noticing someone’s beautiful hair colour,

Or trying to figure out ,

Which song the person is humming.

And each time I notice those things,

I try to remember if we ever did that.

It does hurt every now and again.

Sometimes I get stuck in time, unable to move.

But eventually I am grateful,

To have your everlasting presence in my memories.
