A Word

By Kirtiman Hazarika

You've put paid to every word,

Even before it can escape,

From me, from you, to you, it's so absurd,

Yet Silence wears you better, like a drape.

And when you walk in its cold shade,

I know you have nothing more to say,

And yet you know each word I bade,

To plead, to pray, my wish for you to stay.

Not yet a glance to acknowledge,

That I am here without your Rain,

You hold still while I seek knowledge,

Of your smile to ease my Pain.

So here I look without much hope,

At Beauty loved by every eye,

Straying from my pride to cope,

That someday you’ll soon reply.
