A War Within The Self

You run away barefoot when it knocks on your door.

Why? Why? Why?

Because tomorrows are unknown angels waiting at your threshold.

But yesterdays are your known devils,

they don't want to give you away.

And you know what the saying goes like.

A half of yourself drowned in doubt,

the other half of you, desperately thrusting you down

the ocean of guilt, trying to save you from doubt's trenches.

But the trench seems deep enough yet again.

"As you like it." Your mind and heart seem to reach a truce.

The same one today. (Yes. Yet again.)

"Drowned in doubt" reads your epitaph in today's share of slow death.

Yet somehow, you still survive on this thread called "Hope"

Tomorrow is still an angel. No doubt, unknown.

And here you are. Still trying to believe it is.
