A Love Unanswered

Updated: Jul 11, 2025

By Zenia Zaheer

I love  you in a language you never spoke,

In the silence between words we never shared.

My heart, a broken echo,

Tried to paint a love you never cared.

You were the sun I watched from afar,

And I was the shadow you never saw.

I gave you all I had—

But you never reached for me,

Just let me fade into the distance.

You filled my thoughts like endless rain,

A storm I couldn’t escape,

And every drop reminded me—

You were the one I couldn’t keep.

I loved you with the depth of oceans,

But you sailed away,

Leaving me to drown in waves

Of everything you never felt.

I begged for a glance,

For a second to be seen—

But you never heard my whispers,

Not even in my dreams.

Love, when it’s one-sided,

Feels like a fire that can’t burn,

A candle that flickers,

But never learns to shine.

I loved you—

But you’ll never love me.

And now I’m left,

A hollow shell of what could have been.
