A Love Like Yours

Updated: Jul 5, 2025

By Doyel Bhattacharjee

To be or not to be,

The question remained unanswered

Haunting silence surrounds us

How could you be

So cruelly me

Misery loved me

Happiness was a folly

Yet I desired glory

Even as the fire burned me

It was holy

How you touched me

As if I wasn't tainted

By sorrow, brittle and bony

I'll worship your memory

Even if it was a false God

Even a myth, a story

I'd be fortunate enough

To be jolly

There was no breathing

With you near

Heart breaching solitude

No living when you weren't

Alone in my walls of fortitude

Walls of black adamant

A shivering claw,

My salvation in your eyes

Mine searching for enlightenment

Beseeching words,

Never once spoken

Rose glass shattered

My curse once broken

Never to return

Silken rope,

Roughened sheets

Couldn't hold you back

You held me close

Your arms my sanctuary

The song of us, a prose

You sang back to me

To be or not to be

The question remained unanswered

Yet your arms remained home to me

Like misery loved the orphaned
