A Letter Not Read

The heavens smiled when they prayed for each other

When they perilously yearned for one another

She wrote poems about the beauty of his ethereal voice

how it plucked strings of her heart , how it made her rejoice

Little did she know , all his songs were written in her admiration

That her smile  is what gave the soul to his guitar’s vibration

In the garden of friendship, red roses bloomed in full glory

Friends to lovers , Oh ! It would have been the perfect love story

But , they were too ashamed to admit , too afraid to say

Both thought that what if the other never saw them that way

Each night she wrote letters for her dearest , conveyed her desire

Each night she broke down in tears and set them on fire

He would sing about her , but never voice it out loud

That it’s her heart he seeks , not the cheer of the crowd

The thorns of longing , tortured their young hearts each breath

The rose of love wilted and died a slow, painful death

If only the silence were broken , three little words were spoken

If only those letters were read , no heart would have broken

Cowardice infested  the garden , destroyed it’s old glory

Friends to lovers , Oh ! It would have been the perfect love story
