A soldier fights on

His life on the line

Clinging to the illusions

That pave the path

To his demise

A soldier looks forward

Awaiting the fateful day

With ragged breath

Where he is greeted by

The clasp of his loved ones

A soldier wonders

As he slaughters

A human like himself

Who awaited the joy

Of return home

Never to be found again

A soldier pivots

The very weapons

He used on his foe

Pulling the trigger

A desperate scramble

To embrace death
