A God, Forsaken
By Avani Tiwari
I seek the light that abandoned me,
Never once looked back,
Yet demanded that I pray to thou.
But no, I don’t want to.
I don’t wish to see thou.
For when my tears filled the pail,
Thou stood there smiling,
Seeing my heart turn to stale.
As I witnessed the rain turn to hail,
And the hail raged into a storm,
All that thou did was ask me—
"Why don’t you sing?"
I quoted, “It reminded me of you.”
That you know,
I don’t wish to spend
A second, or a handful of life,
To remember you.
Though I still wish to sing,
A beautiful opera, a graceful melody,
But a horror ring
Was all that I could sing.
Don’t you ever feel sorry
For what thou have done?
Or is it the usual drill,
A human thou decided
To put in an urn?
Thou, who were meant to console,
Left in my image, a nasty hole. And even now
As grief continues to sweetly engrave on my bones, a hymn lucid,
Thou stand there smiling,
Still asking for songs,
From a soul that thou damnly wronged.
So no, I won’t sing.
Not for thou.
Not when the storm sounds more like me
Than thou ever did.
