A Fool's Errand

I feel such a fool, subjugated to the endless mercenaries so cruel, they never seem to loosen their grip over my soul, bound within the confines of those dreary dreams I dreamt, how I dared to hope.

For hope the destroyer of all agony, it seems

but to me, the callous soul juxtaposed with the prospect of hope, bound to fail, must be.

Simpletons! each soul must know how it ends,

It doesn't spare the best of us,

Bids farewell with a trail of ruins, sorrow and dust.

God, I wish I hadn't tried, hitherto would've I begun to unlearn the taste of those tears, as salty as the ocean, the one that runs as deep as all my fears,

would've spared my heart the sorrow of a million years.
