A Face Off

By Manpreet Singh

The ticking of the clock stopped—so did the sense of regret

At last, the time came when me and Death finally met

I was asked if I had anything important to do before I go

Oh, this is how you joke (me)

How could I do something, lying there without any breath’s flow?

I felt peace in the end, freed from agony and sorrow

Pity—I would never see who said last goodbyes on the morrow

One me lying there, one me flying here—

The chariot of Death, I don't know taking me where?

Finally, we reached a place where dark separated from light

I stood in the middle—wondering which way would be right.

It was time—time to settle all my debts,

For the deeds I did with this body, which now peacefully rests.

Suddenly,

They seized me — dragged me down, into the Hall of Fire.

Nothing I heard except the loudest scream.

In shock, I just woke up

And realized

It was all—just a beautiful dream.
