A Beacon of Jamaican Soil

Its nature’s discourse of our ancestral path,

Among roaring lions and beasts

I hear them whisper, ‘Samuel Sharp,

Jamaican, a great one’

Spiritual warrior who feared,

No defeat, yet for him we suffered grief

With the bible in his right hand.

He pushed justice and equality,

Inspired others to fight for freedom

Love and faith; he heed his policy,

I hear them whisper, ‘Samuel Sharp,

Out of Saint James, northwest part

Jamaican, a great one’

Rocks claim, his strength came from mountains,

Hugh forest trees stood by our hero,

As he drank water from blessed fountains

In history is his name,

Conquering racial prejudice

He mastered the game

Alive or dead, Sam Sharp gain,

Freedom came;

Oh he did toil

Salute a beacon of the soil
