Leaf

A young tree with beautiful leaves,

One of them stood out the most.

It was prettier and bolder than the rest.

No fear.

Filled with hope,

Hopes and dreams.

Most admired it,

respected it.

The rest- were jealous,

were harsh,

tried their best to destroy the magnificent leaf.

The leaf held its head high.

An ordinary leaf with hope.

Hope that made it irresistible to some,

Hope that disgusted the rest.

A fearless leaf with a yearning, held its head high.

Day by day it grew prettier.

Day by day they became more jealous.

Day by day they became harsher.

Their words were bitter.

Their words were sharper.

The pretty leaf that once glowed brighter than the sun on a hot summer day,

Was now flickering like a candle-

A candle with a damp wick on a frigid night.

The leaf that once held its head high.

I was told it fell,

Fell on that cold monsoon storm.

However, I know it was pushed.

It let itself fall,

it fell with the last amount of light it had.

The leaf held its head high.

Forgotten.

Lost forever to the motion of time.

An exquisite little leaf with hope.

A meaningless, insignificant leaf.

Replaced.

It held its head high

And looked up with a smile.
