Hope

This is something I wrote after a very close relative was diagnosed with cancer.

Have you ever felt helpless

To the bones

When everything’s a mess

And your voice full of groans

Have you ever felt tired

Tired of worrying

Like the universe has against you transpired

Against all your well being

Have you ever felt loss

Loss of hope

No ray of light from across

The sea of mope

Have you ever felt frustrated

Angry from being in despair

Like you’ve been castrated

Of all your laughter’s share

I wonder if God created this world,

Of love, light and laughter,

If God gave us brain,

Of wit, wonder and wisdom

Why did he make us helpless?

I think I know now why,

He didn’t want us to worry,

He didn’t want us to just sigh,

He made the line a little blurry

Between reason and hope

We reason and worry,

But it’s our job to hope

And His to worry.

That’s why we have one brain to think

And two hands to pray.

Ours is the hope to keep

His is the worry to prey.
