Food

By Ayush Kumawat

Someone asked for food from me today

Tiny hands asking me to satiate their way

I had to ignore the plea

I didn't had the courage to see

Into those eyes who are looking for mercy

I feared that I might look into her tormented soul

The price she's paying by living on the road

I tried to look away trying to believe that nothing happened

Because of me someone's life hasn't shortened

Who was I to decide, because I had some money?

Just because I was born in a certain family

There arises another question of

how much and how many I'm willing to feed?

Who was I to deny their right to food

Is that even a right anymore?

I see them walk away with a sigh of another failed attempt

Leaving behind a question not understood

Who was I to deny their right to food?

The way you portray these experiences is exceptional. Truly makes one question their own beliefs.
