Fish

By Safoorah Aafreen

The fish is not in the water

it’s on the ground, flipping around

Yet you say,

“keep the fish away from me”

as you wrap your perfectly abled arms around yourself

“Keep the fish away from me”

You say as you refuse to look at it

at the eyes slowly losing light

at the flapping slowly becoming non existent

You keep your eyes on your feet

where the ground is stable beneath you

“The fish is going to hurt me”

You say as you lose yourself in your mind

while the fish dies on your land

this is not about fishes
