Defy

They teach us to be polite,

And stand for what is right.

They teach us to respect,

And in time, to reflect.

They teach us to abide,

Without being snide.

They teach us to learn,

And to honestly earn.

And yet, these lessons for life,

Have led us all to strife.

Honesty is no more a virtue,

But our burden against the vice.

Laws remain just, yet,

Law enforcers turned blind.

Corruption is talked about,

But never abolished.

Freedom is celebrated,

But carefully enjoyed.

Democracy is stated,

But answers denied.

Lessons are learnt,

Ironically, can’t be applied.

So, we say, we follow,

We say, we rely.

But we all silently recognize,

That in this world of malversation, decadence and sin,

We bravely Defy.
