"Why is it all sideways?", she asked,

"It's all gone to shit, and I couldn't tell.

Roses turned to ash, and with it,

All that red turned grey".

"Why couldn't I tell?", she asked,

"When I was present through and through.

The leaves, they dried up,

And we became husks of yesterday".

"How did I grow so old?", she asked,

Running her fingers down her cheek.

“The mirror didn't lie, but my eyes did,

Same goes when I look at you".

"How did we get here?", she asked,

"I saw us somewhere else.

The roads, they weren't kind,

But I guess I didn't mind".

"When did we let go?", she asked,

"In spite of you, I can't get a hold.

Words lost meaning, the tunes lost soul,

My brush dances on canvas no more".

"Maybe we were just busy living", she said,

"Obsessing over things wrong and the wrong things.

But how were we to know,

No-one told us shit."

"I'll catch you tomorrow", she said,

"I've had enough of today.

But in this solitary instant, I'm glad I'm with you,

The irony isn't lost on me."

And I didn't get a say.
