By Gayatri M P

In this poem written in Kannada, I've tried to compose the poem in the order of kagunita ( ka, kaa, ke, kee, ku, kuu....)

Effects of urbanization.

This poem is about urbanization. Discoveries, inventions and necessity has led to the( sometimes haphazard) growth of towns and cities on an unprecedented scale.

Explanation

In the midst of the skyscrapers, even the air feels suffocated. A casual glance at people's conversations make us feel that they are parroting others' thoughts/ words! People are always so busy, always on the move ,chasing something, completely immersed in some deep thought. The chirping of birds, conspicuous by its absence has been limited to the sound of the doorbell. The common folk dream about building their own 'nest', perform grihpravesh... They work hard determined to succeed. Lofty dreams, meagre income, diminishing moral values ...... life seems to resemble a puppet show. On the one hand, you have people who are opportunists, changing their colour like a chameleon. On the other, you have people who are compelled to compromise with changing situations to lead a respectable life. Inspite of the unpredictable nature of urban life, we see people packing their belongings and migrating from the rural areas to cities in search of greener pastures. Observing the hypocrisy of men, the consciences of the people make a mockery of them, sneering at them.(which gets lost in the hustle and bustle)
