यह जीवन है।

हम बचपन से नटखट थे,

मम्मी कहतीं थीं इस काया से बस मटकते थे।

कभी इधर कभी उधर,

एक पंछी थे,

पूरी दुनिया की सैर पर थे।

एक दिन खेलते खेलते हम गिर पड़े,

पहले भी चोटें लगीं थी,

लेकिन इस बार वाली खास थी।

इस बार चोट लगी तो थी,

पर ठीक होते होते एक नई ज़मीन बुन गई थी।

वो चोट एक नई खाल छोड़ गई थी।

वो हमे बेरंगा कर गई थी।

पहले इतना ध्यान नहीं दिया,

धीरे धीरे वो फैल गई थी।

हमारे पैर, हाथ सब खाल रंग से दूर हो रही थी।

हमे डॉक्टर के ले जाया गया,

सफ़ेद निशान बताया गया।

हमने यह पहले ना देखी ना सुनी थी,

हमारा थोड़े तजुर्बे में भी तो कमी थी।

घर पर सब देख देख परेशान हो रहे थे,

हमारी माँ के तो आंसू ही ख़त्म नहीं हो रहे थे।

हम थोड़े शांत थे,

आने वाले कल से अनजान थे।

अब हम गर्मियों में भी स्कूल आधी बाजू में नहीं जाते थे,

कभी मिट्टी में खेलना हो तो जुराब नहीं उतारते थे।

फिर एक दिन यूँ हुआ,

उसने हमारे चेहरे को भी छू लिया।

हमारे होंठ भी अब सफ़ेद हो चुके थे,

अब हम दंग और परेशान हो चुके थे।

सब हमसे बस यही पूछने और टोकने लगे थे,

हाए राम, किसी नए डॉक्टर का पता या हमें बेचारी बोलने लगे थे।

डॉक्टर, वैध, बाबा, ना जाने और कौन कौन सब हमारे ज़बरदस्ती नए दोस्त हो गये थे,

बाहर धूप में खेलना और दुनिया भर की खाने की चीज़ों को रोक चुके थे,

हमारे पंखों को ज़ख़्मी कर चुके थे।

धीरे धीरे सबकी आदत हो गयी,

हमारी ही क़ैद हमारी हिफ़ाज़त हो गयी।

हमें तो बचपन से हवा बनना था,

हमारी उदासी आसमान कैसे सह सकता था?

एक दिन हम चुपके से आज़ाद निकल लिए,

ना जुराब ना पूरी बाँह ना मुँह पर कुछ नक़ाब लिए,

लोगों ने टोका तो थोड़ा बुरा मान लिए।

डरते डरते फिर से खुली राह छान लिए।

फिर एक दिन रोशिनी दिखी,

आगे चल कर देखा तो हमारी ही छवि मिली।

हम ही नहीं अपनाते थे खुदको तो दूसरों से कैसे उम्मीद रखते,

यह सबके साथ खुदको ही बहुत कुछ सुना कर निपटा दिए।

वहीं पूरी रात गुज़ार दिए,

अपने नए नए रूप से मिल कर,

पुराने को मार दिये।

तब से अब हम बुरा नहीं मानते,

लोग हमें अपनाए दुआ नहीं माँगते,

हम जानते हैं नश्वर है काया,

इसलिए अब हम अपना रंग वापस नहीं माँगते।

हमनें एक आदत और अपनायी है,

अपने दिल और नज़रों को एक नयी दुनिया दिखाई है।

जहाँ लोग खुदको छुपाते हैं,

उनको वहीं से उनकी ख़ूबसूरती दिखाई है।

आते जाते सबको एक मुस्कान और तारीफ़ भी ज़रूर बिछाई है,

कुछ देर के लिए ही सही,

पर हमनें हवा में ख़ुशबू भी महकाई है।
