जाने देने को अक्सर कमजोरी या समर्पण समझा जाता है। सच तो यह

है कि यह किसी व्यक्ति द्वारा किए जाने वाले सबसे साहसी कार्यों में

से एक है। यह वह शांत शक्ति है जो हृदय को उन चीजों को छोड़ने की

अनुमति देती है जिन्हें उसने कभी कसकर पकड़ रखा था—यादें, अपेक्षाएं,

लोग, दर्द—और उपचार, स्वीकृति और विकास के लिए जगह बनाती है।

हममें से कई लोगों के लिए, पकड़े रहना जाने देने से ज्यादा सुरक्षित

लगता है। हम परिचित भावनाओं से चिपके रहते हैं, भले ही वे हमें दुख

पहुंचाएं, क्योंकि वे हमारे लिए जानी-पहचानी हैं। हम बातचीत को

दोहराते हैं, यादों को फिर से ताजा करते हैं, और इस उम्मीद को पालते

हैं कि चीजें पहले जैसी हो जाएंगी। फिर भी अतीत वह जगह नहीं है
