एक नदी की मौत

वो एक बहुत प्यारी सी नदी,

जिसका पुरातन नाम हरनदी है।

वो पुरातन जीवनदायिनी नदी,

जो प्राचीन इतिहास में भी वर्णित है।

कई हजार वर्ष पहले,

जिसके किनारे सभ्यताएं बसती थीं।

वो नदी जिसके आस-पास,

अनेकों जिंदगियां हँसती थीं।

आधुनिक नाम हिंडन वाली,

उस प्यारी सी नदी को मैंने,

नदी से नाले में बदलते हुए देखा।

उस प्यारी सी खूबसूरत नदी को मैंने,

अपनी आँखों से मरते हुए देखा।

वो नदी जिसका अमृत जैसा जल,

मैंने जहर बनते हुए देखा।

वो नदी जिसका जलीय जीवन मैंने,

अपनी आँखों से नष्ट होते हुए देखा।

मैंने उस एक नदी की मौत को

अपनी आँखों के सामने देखा।

वो नदी जिसके किनारे से मैं

बचपन में तख्ती की कलम बनाने के लिए,

सरकंडे तोड़कर लाया करता था।

वो नदी जिसके किनारे मैं,

पंछियों की मधुर आवाजें सुनने

बचपन में जाया करता था।

बढ़ते जल प्रदूषण के कारण

मैंने उस नदी के निर्मल जल को

बुरी तरह सड़ते हुए देखा।

मैंने उस नदी को मरते हुए देखा।

नदी की भूमि पर अतिक्रमण करके,

अनेक लोगों के घर बन गए।

नदी के जल में रहने वाले जीव,

जल प्रदूषण के कारण मर गए।

अब ना ही वो नदी किनारे वाली

बहती हुई ठंडी हवा रही।

अब ना ही वो पंछियों की चहचहाहट,

और ना ही पानी बहने की

वो प्यारी मधुर आवाज रही।

अगर कुछ रह गई तो सिर्फ,

सड़न, बदबू और गंदगी रह गई।

वो प्यारी नदी, हरनदी से हिंडन

और हिंडन से नाला बनकर रह गई,

ये मेरी जिन्दगी के सबसे

भयानक मंजरों में से एक है,

जो मैंने अपनी आँखों से देखा।

मैंने उस नदी को मरते हुए देखा।

मैंने हिंडन नदी को मरते हुए देखा।
