You Can't Kill A Killer
By Samiksha Deshpande
You can’t kill a killer.
This isn’t a lie.
You can’t kill a killer.
Let me show you, by and by.
You can’t kill a killer,
Said my mother once.
So she had her insides out,
Done by her own guns.
You can’t kill a killer,
My father said one night.
And he didn’t wake up,
To see another day’s light.
You can’t kill a killer,
My sister said out loud.
The world did surely weep,
As she donned her solemn shroud.
You can’t kill a killer,
Said our ageing maid.
She lost her head one morning,
A bloody price she paid.
You can’t kill a killer,
Said my brother, full of wine.
And then he went flailing,
Straight into a deep ravine.
You can’t kill a killer,
My valet said to me.
He never dressed me again,
For he was stung by a lethal bee.
You can’t kill a killer,
Sang my nephew after class.
T’was the last tune he sang,
For then his throat was ripped by glass.
You can’t kill a killer,
I say, it ain’t a lie.
I turn to bed in peace,
With nothing to go awry.
You can’t kill a killer.
The saying’s but a joke.
I’d have the last laugh,
If I weren’t held in a choke.
