Would It Still Be So Beautiful?

The river sounds so sweet,

With rocks beneath its feet.

Without them in its way,

Would it sound the same today?

The rainbow comes after the rain,

With every colour in its lane.

Without the clouds, without the grey,

Would it shine the same way?

The water starts so high above,

Then loses what it once had loved.

If it never had to fall,

Would we call it beautiful at all?

Lightning cracks the sky at night,

And suddenly the dark is bright.

Without those cracks up in the sky,

Would it look as pretty to the eye?

The ocean shapes the shell each day,

With every wave that comes its way.

It leaves its scars upon its side,

Would it be so beautiful without the tide?

The river taught me to find my way,

The rainbow to wait for brighter days.

The waterfall showed me falling isn’t all,

The lightning made beauty out of every fall.

And the shell wore every scar with pride,

So maybe I need my own storms and tides.

If I had never stumbled or fallen,

If I had never faced it all,

Would I still be so beautiful?
