WOULD IT HAVE ENDED DIFFERENTLY?

If we had spoken our minds,

Ripped our hearts open,

Let each other see

The hidden lies unveiled.

Would it have ended differently?

If you had looked me in the eye

And told me what you meant.

Perhaps I wouldn’t have dodged

While you passed by,

Nor bumped into a stranger

Whose pain mirrored my tears.

Perhaps I wouldn’t have dreaded school,

Forced to sit alone during lunch,

And gather my broken pieces at night

So I could wake as the sun rose.

Perhaps my face wouldn’t have been red

From trying to rub away the swollen eyes.

Pretending to be okay when I was not.
