Wishful Thinking
By Sylvia Leong
Staring at the distant sky,
The moon shines so bright.
How peaceful it must be,
To be ever so carefree.
To be amidst the stars,
Listening to all the heroic memoirs.
Surrounded by the gallant clouds,
Looking down at the gentle sprouts.
Oh! To be the moon in the lovers' tale,
Witnessing their shy gaze.
To be the moon in a wanderer’s journey,
Lighting his path till it’s four past thirty.
To be the moon in a child’s bedtime story,
Illuminating his dreams with the world’s glory.
Oh! To be the moon the glorious moon.
Now as the candles dim,
Coughs and despair grow grim.
As the eyes fall asleep,
The moon still shines down gently.
