Wish on the ordinary

If one could wish upon the rain

Would that wish be worth anything?

Because rain is a constant companion

Among the likes of men

One would always wish upon a shooting star

That wish would be worth its every spark

Because a falling star is a rare sight

Among those awaiting the final light

What cruelty the world bestows

And what greed succumbs a mortal heart

For once, all is said and done

We seek what isn't ordinary, longing for the extraordinary

In a world that takes the given for granted

If a wish could thaw the pain of life

And grant the living hope to thrive

Why couldn’t such a wish be placed on a drop of rain

Would the world then not be a quieter place?

And death… a leap of faith
