Winter
By Prathishta Diwakar
Winter is but a bittersweet romance
Lulling you into a deceptive tranquility
The longer nights a convenient escape
From the struggles of life's harsh reality.
The sharp edges of all our imperfections
Get blurred by the soft blanket of snow
The steam wafting off a cup of cocoa
Gives even the frowning faces a rosy glow.
Our fragile hearts and vulnerable souls
Seem sheltered by warm jumpers and blankets
The problems that seemed significant in July
Get brushed under all these thick carpets.
And yet countless jumpers and cups of cocoa
Are nothing but a temporary fix
The numbing snow and hazy mist
Just a bandage instead of the necessary stitch
But maybe this is the magic of winter indeed
If only for a few moments of wintry cheer
We are more than just our tiresome troubles
And the world seems more cozy and dear.
