Wie is jy pappa, is die vraag aan jou.

Is die antwoord iets wat jou kinders weet?

Sou jou kinders opgewonde wag op jou koms,

of is jy die pappa wat almal wil vergeet?

Om pa te word is ‘n wil van die lyf.

Om ‘n pappa te wees, ‘n wil van die hart.

Is die kind jou eie, of is ander die pa?

Jy is die pappa, as jy hom beskerm teen smart.

Wie is jy,pappa, is nog ‘n keer die vraag.

Is jy die een wat altyd teenwoordig bly?

Of hoe, as ons jou kinders van jou sou vra:

Het jy op jou seep koop stappie gegly?

Wie is jy, pappa? Dit bly steeds die vraag.

As jy daar is, sien die kinders hulle held?

Of staan hulle opgetrek van vrees en angs?

Is al wat hulle by jou sien altyd net geweld?

Wie is jy,pappa? Dis oor en oor die vraag.

Is jy werklik die man wat die wêreld ken en sien?

En daar in die donker, met die deure gesluit?

Kan jy werklik by jou kinders, die titel held verdien?

Wie is jy,pappa? Ja, nog weer kom die vraag.

Vir mense ‘n dronklap, tog jou kroos hang aan jou?

Buite die huis die heilige kerkman en binne satan self?

Wie is jy, pappa? Is jy niks meer as net ‘n pronkpou?

Wie is jy, pappa? Ja ons sing die refrein.

Jy is mos die droom van wat jou kinders wil wees.

‘n Nagmerrie toekoms wil niemand tog leef.

So, wie is jy, pappa? Antwoord ons nou, sonder vrees.
