Widowed By The War

Deep inside my heart

I see his endearing smile,

With the hidden fear

He stayed by my side,

‘Dear, stay strong’ he said-

His arms around me,

Of trembling heartbeats by his chests-

I fell asleep hoping for a peaceful dawn,

Yet another dawn-

Came with its lost hope,

Left beneath my head his arms-

Towards him I turned my head,

As my fear spoke-

Saw my man left unshaken,

Bleeding under the fallen concrete roof-

I dragged myself towards his chest,

Hoping for a final warmth-

To feel his final hope of breath,

Praying for no more bombs-

Or rifles and spilled blood,

I bid goodbye to my love-

From the land of fear to the land of peace,

He flew to eternity,

And I am left widowed by the war!
