Whited sepulchres

By Naily Manodara

To be tired of the noise and long for silence

To be tired of people and long for solus

To be angry at the world and fear the urge to kill

To be angry at oneself and wield that wrath at will

Cursed is a child who knows pain and shows anger

Cured is a child who knows pain and shows compassion

Naive is a man who hides the truth to flaunt delusion

Wise is a man who hides the truth to flaunt sympathy

The world is copious of insufferable hypocrites

Abounding with those who have mastered the arts of deceit

Bountiful of wolves in sheep’s clothing

Hunting the prey that’s ensnared in their loathing

So, where in this vexatious stage do I belong?

What does my role entail in this shafting play?

What deceptive tale am I pawned to craft?

To whom should I beg to leave me unchained?

If I were ever given the chance,

To be the spectator and not the player

I shall quench my longing for silence and solus

I shall paint away my wrath and fear

Let the colours of my tears stain the canvas of life

Let the canvas burn in the fires of starlight

Let the curtains drape over the whited sepulchres

For only then will I break free of these incarcerated chains

Carry these broken wings, I will

To where the angels reside

To sing the eulogy of my demise

And die with a smile.
