Whispers Of The World
By Maha Mohamed Ali
Strolling underneath all stars in the deepest part of the night,
The breeze blew her way, whistling midst the teeth of passing time,
A slow sigh met it, languishing in the path of her uncoiling plight,
The breeze shut her eyes, rising to a shriek of unpleasant rhyme.
Strolling underneath all stars in the deepest part of the night,
The stubborn wisp persisted, swaying her feet above the ground,
She hummed a song of no repute, flickering a forgotten light,
Her feet rose and fell, miming her hearts relentless pound.
Strolling underneath all stars in the deepest part of the night,
The clouds met above her, reminiscing seasons of pleasant pours,
She drew to a trunk, deprived of company hidden in easy sight,
The leaves fluttered and clapped, teasing her with its hued lures.
Strolling underneath all stars in the deepest part of the night,
The world conspired, whispering through the rents torn in the heavens,
She gazed at the wrought doors, quivering against deafening might,
Her heart brimmed with water, flowing past all determined fences.
Strolling underneath all stars in the deepest part of the night,
The moonlight rushed, floating over the ravines of her endless thoughts,
She watched its wings lift, leaving a gash of orange beneath its flight,
Her feet were dragged home, reliving the visions of her soul’s night bouts.
