Whispers to the Sky

The sky forgets its name, so I whispered yours into the dark.

I whispered it as gentle as your touch, as if you were right there with me.

The stars leaned closer, curious, as if they too had missed the sound of your voice.

It sends sparks of light through the sky, trying to catch your attention.

I reach out with words, stitched from silence, hoping they land softly onto your skin.

I whisper your name to the sky again, louder this time.

The stars seek for answers that I can’t give them…

Instead, I just smile, in remembrance of you.

The night doesn’t ask why, it simply holds me, as if your name was enough to keep the sky from unraveling.

It holds me, as your name drifts through the constellations…slowly out of my mind,

And though the stars no longer echo your name, they still shimmer,

Because you were once spoken into them.

But just as the stars begin to dim,

As the day slowly breaks,

I hear it…your name,

But not from my lips this time,

But from someone else.
