Whispers in the Silence

I sit where the light has long forgotten how to reach,

deep in the places no one thinks to look.

I close my eyes, so I will not have to meet their stares.

My words remain locked behind my lips,

as though they were never meant to be heard.

The voices around me fall like invisible blows.

And I do nothing but count the time within myself-

the shadows dancing at the edges of my mind,

and the quiet certainty

that no one will ever see what lies beneath.

Sometimes, I try to speak.

But all that escapes me is a whisper.

And even that is met with nothing,

for it too dissolves

into this vast, voiceless room.

Then, suddenly, he comes-

that teacher.

No accusing voice.

No questions sharp enough to bring me to my knees.

He speaks of cracks.

Of darkness.

As though he knows…

As though he knows the fractures

running along the edges of me,

or knows that somewhere inside

there is an abyss

no one has ever dared to touch.

He speaks of light-

a light I do not know

whether I am capable of seeing.

Perhaps it exists only

in the world of his imagination.

And yet, for the first time,

I feel something pure.

As though, within my endless darkness,

I am no longer entirely alone-

as though I have found

a small, quiet companion

where the light cannot reach.

And for that, I thank him.
