Where does it hurt?

“Where does it hurt?” you ask with a sigh,

As if my pain is an inconvenience for your life.

Except I never asked for this and you know that,

So why are you acting like I begged you to be here for something as simple as that?

I mean, I was there for you in the bad times, the hard fight, the bare get by’s,

And you can’t even show up for me this one time?

But I mean, is it even a surprise?

The entire time all you fed me was lies

Left me to fall, to suffer at my own demise,

But I guess that’s how it is, when love turns into something you despise

Or maybe it’s not despised and that’s just just how it is when times flies,

We get older and we grow apart, no longer willing to sail the seven seas when the other cries

And that’s ok because I now know where I stand,

And how precious it is I am held in your hand

So as the pain chooses not to reside but to subside I let it,

Not because I want to,

But if keeping that pain means keeping the final piece of me that’s left before I’m swallowed into the dark abyss then Take Me because I rather be here for your good and bad, even if you can’t be here for mine,

And maybe that’s the difference between us,

That I’ll stay, even when you won’t,

But I rather be the one that stays and keeps the boat floating,

Than to give up and let it fall to the depths of the sea, yet to be retrieved by anyone or anything
