When Love Came Calling
By Desiree Marisa Fernandes
Oh! There I found you
The universe pulled out all stops
And the likes of me wouldn’t have reckoned
That we’d be locking eyes in a second.
The anatomy hurled into unrestrained territory
We effused in an elated aura
As the euphoria reverberated in my being
You gently settled on me with a sting.
The itch scratched the surface
With an unsettled feeling after the rush
Colluding with all the encompassing familiarity
It was time to touch base with reality.
When the setting sun dips in its twilight
It makes for a picturesque keepsake
It felt like my radiance was good enough
To warm you from a distance when things got rough.
Your sudden outburst, withdrawal and frequent disappearance
Would appear like the unprecedented rains in winter
Alluring me to cool my heels therein
With chances of better days ahead being thin.
As my concerns and feelings as lucidly expressed
Make you second guess you’d be playing with fire
Engulfed in raging flames
That brushed off from the glowing sparks as they came.
The former flame that was your crony
Could run the possibility of extinguishing your ties
Dissecting my efforts that went futile
I concluded that you’d make for an imbecile.
To have acquiescence mercy and forgiveness
Was a long drawn war footing battle
And to have extended that towards you
Came from life’s lessons that I’d learnt a few.
For now my dearly estranged friend
So long, farewell in your new abode
Towards yourself be gentle and kind
As your going to need to process a lot in your mind.
